Dermaplaning

Treatment Overview

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation treatment in which Amber uses a sterile, single-use blade to gently sweep away the outermost layer of dead surface skin cells and the fine vellus hair, the peach fuzz, on the face. Held at roughly a forty-five-degree angle and worked in light, feathery strokes on dry skin, the blade removes two things in one pass: the loose dead cells sitting on the surface and the fine hair on top of them. The result is skin that looks instantly smoother, brighter, and camera-ready, with a surface that takes makeup evenly and lets skincare absorb more readily. Because it clears that dulling layer, it is a favorite week-of treatment before weddings, photos, and events. About the myth that shaving or dermaplaning makes hair grow back thicker or darker: it does not. Vellus hair grows back the same size, shape, and color it was before, because cutting a hair at the surface does not change the follicle, its diameter, its growth rate, or its pigment. It removes only the tapered tip, which can make regrowth feel momentarily blunt, never actually thicker. This is a superficial, esthetician-grade exfoliation that works at the very top of the epidermis. It is comfortable and essentially downtime-free, though skin may look slightly pink or feel briefly tight. The glow lasts around three to four weeks as natural turnover restores the surface, so most clients maintain it about once a month. It is a smoothing and prep treatment, not a corrective or collagen-building one.

Your Visit

What should you expect from Dermaplaning?

  1. 01 Consult and skin analysis, where the provider confirms candidacy, checks for contraindications like active acne or a rosacea flare, and reviews your goals.
  2. 02 The skin is thoroughly cleansed and fully dried, since dermaplaning is performed on dry skin so the blade glides.
  3. 03 Using a sterile, single-use blade at about forty-five degrees, the provider works in small sections with short, light, feathery strokes, holding the skin taut.
  4. 04 Dead surface cells and vellus hair are removed, revealing an immediately smoother, brighter surface.
  5. 05 A soothing serum and hydration go on, followed by SPF, with optional add-ons such as an enzyme step, hydrating mask, or LED.
Personalized Candidacy

Who is a candidate for Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning suits clients who want an instant, low-downtime smoothing and brightening, anyone prepping for an event or photos, people bothered by peach fuzz that makes foundation look patchy, and those with dry, flaky, or dull-textured skin who want their skincare or a follow-on facial to work harder. It is also comfortable for people who dislike the tingle of chemical exfoliation. It is generally not appropriate over active acne breakouts, an active rosacea or eczema flare, cold sores, sunburn, or broken or very reactive skin, and it is not a substitute for waxing when the goal is coarse-hair removal, which is Aundrea's or Brandy's lane. Final candidacy is confirmed by the provider at consultation and skin analysis, and individual outcomes vary.

Not every client is a candidate for every service. Final treatment combinations and candidacy are confirmed by your licensed provider based on candidacy, contraindications, and local regulations. Outcomes are individual and depend on your skin, candidacy, and consistency.

Common Questions

Will the hair grow back thicker or darker?

No. Dermaplaning removes fine vellus, peach-fuzz, hair at the surface, and it grows back the same size, shape, and color it was before. Cutting a hair does not change the follicle, its thickness, or its pigment. This is the same well-worn shaving myth, and it applies here too.

Does dermaplaning hurt, and is there any downtime?

Most clients find it painless and even relaxing, describing a light feathering or scraping sensation with no numbing needed. Downtime is essentially none; skin may look slightly pink or feel a touch tight briefly. It is a classic quick-turnaround, lunchtime-style treatment.

How long do results last, and how often should I get it?

The smooth, bright finish typically lasts about three to four weeks as your skin's natural turnover cycle restores the surface layer and the vellus hair. Because skin turns over roughly monthly, most clients maintain the look with a session about once every four weeks, which is why a Package of 4 is offered. Your provider individualizes the spacing.

Can I do it if I have active acne or rosacea?

Generally not during active acne breakouts, since the blade can irritate active lesions and spread bacteria. With rosacea it is approached with caution and not during a flare. If your skin is calm and clear, the provider will confirm candidacy at consultation; if it is inflamed or reactive, they will steer you toward gentler options.

How does dermaplaning compare to facial waxing?

They do different jobs. Dermaplaning removes fine peach-fuzz vellus hair and exfoliates dead skin, so its main purpose is smoothing and brightening. Facial waxing pulls coarser hair from the root, so it lasts longer but does not exfoliate. Choose dermaplaning for glow and makeup-readiness; choose waxing for durable removal of more defined facial hair. Facial waxing is Aundrea's or Brandy's lane, not Amber's.

How should I care for my skin afterward?

Wear broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher daily and limit direct sun for a few days, which matters here in SW Florida since freshly exfoliated skin is more sun-sensitive. Pause retinoids and exfoliating acids for about seventy-two hours, skip saunas and heavy sweat briefly, keep skin hydrated, and do not pick or scrub. If pairing with facial waxing, allow a gap, commonly about a week.
